Ibou Diagne

Dakar, Senegal  ·  b. 1979

Born in Dakar, Senegal, in 1979, Ibou Diagne is a self taught contemporary artist whose work celebrates the richness of everyday life through expressive colour and dynamic composition. His artistic journey began at an early age with a passion for drawing before developing under the guidance of the Senegalese artist and teacher Daouda Ndiaye, whom he considers an important mentor. Working primarily in painting, Diagne has developed a distinctive visual language inspired by Impressionism while remaining deeply rooted in the realities of contemporary Senegal. His compositions capture markets, fishermen, ceremonies and daily encounters, portraying ordinary moments with remarkable energy and humanity. Rather than documenting these scenes, he reinterprets them through vibrant colour, expressive brushwork and a strong sense of movement. Since his first exhibition in Dakar in the early 2000s, Diagne has participated in numerous exhibitions in Senegal and internationally. His work has been presented in France and across Europe and is held in private collections. Alongside his artistic practice, he is committed to sharing his knowledge with younger generations and has contributed to community art initiatives and creative education. At Maison Touré, Ibou Diagne's work reflects the vitality of contemporary Senegal while inviting viewers to engage with universal themes of community, resilience and everyday beauty.
