When I first encountered the work of Opa Bathily, I was immediately drawn to its quiet strength. His paintings possess a remarkable balance of material richness and emotional restraint. They invite us to slow down, to observe carefully and to discover new layers with every encounter.

Working from Mali, Opa Bathily has developed a distinctive visual language through the use of reclaimed textiles, layered surfaces and expressive compositions.
