A Gallery Built From Memory, Culture, and Intention

When I moved to Sydney, I arrived with excitement, ambition and the desire to build something meaningful. As I settled into a new life, I realised that something essential was missing. It was not a place. It was a feeling. I missed the richness of my culture, the colours, the stories and the creative energy that have always shaped the way I see the world.

The more time passed, the more I understood that this absence was not only personal. It reflected a wider opportunity to create greater visibility for contemporary African art in Australia. Africa is home to an extraordinary generation of artists whose practices are thoughtful, ambitious and deeply original. Yet too often, their work remains underrepresented or viewed through limited narratives.

I wanted to create a space where these artists could be experienced with context, respect and the attention their work deserves. That vision became Maison Touré. Based in Sydney, Maison Touré is dedicated to presenting contemporary African art through carefully curated exhibitions and private viewings. Every artist is selected for the strength of their practice, and every artwork for its artistic quality, authenticity and cultural significance. Every acquisition is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and documented provenance, offering collectors confidence and transparency.

Maison Touré is more than a gallery. It is a place for connection. Our ambition is to build meaningful relationships between artists, collectors and audiences through conversation, discovery and shared appreciation. Whether someone is acquiring their first artwork or expanding an established collection, we want every encounter with the gallery to feel thoughtful, personal and enriching.

Our programme includes curated exhibitions, private viewings and online presentations, allowing visitors to discover exceptional contemporary African art in an environment that encourages closer looking and deeper engagement.

In January 2026, I travelled across Africa to meet the artists whose work would become part of Maison Touré. Every conversation reinforced the same belief. Authenticity begins with the artist. Behind every painting is a lifetime of experience, discipline, curiosity and imagination. Our role is to honour those stories and present each work with integrity and care.

This Journal is a natural extension of that commitment. Alongside our exhibitions, it offers a space to share curatorial reflections, artist conversations and the ideas that shape our programme. We hope it invites readers to look more closely, engage more deeply and discover the remarkable diversity of contemporary African art.

Maison Touré is only at the beginning of its journey. We look forward to building lasting relationships with artists, collectors and institutions while contributing to a broader appreciation of contemporary African art in Australia and beyond.
